EDU Reflection-Summer ’08

“EDU Reflection-Summer ’08,” a daylong interaction program among students of various educational institutions of Chittagong, their guardians, different college principals/heads, and EDU’s well-wishers and faculties, was held on Tuesday, 27 May 2008 at East Delta University (EDU), Agrabad, Chittagong.

The program was a step towards a series of seminars and workshops EDU has undertaken in recent times. EDU believes that a solid tripartite bondage among the students, their parents, and the faculties is a precondition in shaping younger generations to be responsible citizens of this nation. This kind of relationship, indeed, will help the students equip themselves to face the future challenges with determination imbued with values of humanity and morality.

The program coordinated by EDU’s Associate Professor A. Qaiyum Chowdhury was held in two sessions: from 2.30 pm - 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm - 8.30 pm. The event was organized by EDU’s Student Services and Corporate Relations Division. The welcome note in the first session was delivered by EDU’s Vice Chancellor (Designate) Professor Dr. Syed Giasuddin Ahmed. EDU’s adjunct faculty and Professor of North South University Dr. Sk. Tawfiq Hoque, Administrative Director of William Carey Academy (WCA) Mrs. Marilou Long, and WCA faculty Mrs. Walters took part in the discussions as Guests of Honors. First part of the program ended with a very lively brainstorming session participated by WCA’s graduating students in which Professor Qaiyum apprised that EDU would make meaningful contribution in retaining Bangladeshi young generations from going abroad for higher education by providing world class educational opportunities at undergrad levels right at home in Chittagong. EDU’s Project Management Director Sayeed Al Noman termed EDU’s business curriculum, “a reflection of global, not just local educational needs, as it heavily draws on the accredited programs of AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).”

The second session of the program was presided over by EDU’s VC Professor Dr. Syed Giasuddin Ahmed. Principal of Sunshine Grammar School and College Begum Safia Rahman, Principal of Government College of Commerce Prof. Hashfia Bashirullah, and Reverend Bishop of Chittagong Patrick D’ Rozario CSC took part in the discussions as Guests of Honors. Head of Business Studies of Chittagong Grammar School and College Shakir Khan, Relationship Manager of Eastern Bank Limited Ahmed Zibran, Manager of Priority Banking of Standard Chartered Bank Wasika Khan, EDU’s adjunct faculties Prof. Dr. Masud Mahmood, Prof. Dr. Shahadat Hossain, and Prof. Dr. Ganesh Chandra Roy of Chittagong University, EDU’s Directors Sayeed-Al-Noman and Sazia Abdullah also participated in the interactive discussions. In concluding the program EDU’s VC Professor Ahmed pointed out, “EDU is pledge-bound to provide its students with a leading-edge education that will help build a reservoir of truly dedicated and adequately competent leaders of the future who would make genuine contribution to efforts of socio-economic development in Bangladesh.”
