ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT & GOVERNANCE

East Delta University has always been sincere about its role as a significant catalyst for development and growth of the society. It strongly believes in the magnanimous role of academic institutions in influencing policies through education, research and dialogues. EDU believes active participation in policy ecosystem is an effective way to contribute to sustainable development goals for Bangladesh.  That’s where the idea of introducing policy education was conceived, followed by which EDU launched the “Department of Public Leadership, Management and Governance (DPLMG).

East Delta University (EDU) in Bangladesh has pioneered a groundbreaking initiative with its "Master of Public Policy and Leadership (MPPL)" program, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the policy ecosystem. The MPPL program stands as a unique testament to EDU's commitment to fostering informed policy discourse. In the web of policy formulation, the East Delta university serves as a catalyst, bridging academia and practical governance. The policy ecosystem encompasses the intricate network of stakeholders, including government bodies, and NGOs actively engage with the MPPL program, reinforcing EDU's role as forming policy leaders who influence policy development and implementation.

East Delta University has not merely introduced MPPL as an academic offering; it has sparked a transformative journey towards shaping the nation's policy framework. This was the idea behind DPLMG’s visionary initiative of Policy Dialogue Series (PDS) in order to empower society by encouraging dialogues and stakeholder participation, for the betterment of society through informed policy leadership.

In 2019, East Delta University was the first to launch its unique program of Master of Public Policy and Leadership (MPPL) in Bangladesh. The MPPL Program empowers the knowledge and competencies necessary to lead and influence public and private enterprise, which incorporates the political and economic contexts, boost research and analysis, understand governance, and improve policy success. The key objective of this program is to help students develop ethical and effective leadership skills to formulate and implement public policy with moral standards. EDU believes that the current world requires a different kind of knowledge to understand public policy in the context of today's digital world with an aim of "leading through policy-making. Our MPPL alumni members are leading the policy scenes across diverse sectors, including the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Marine Academy, UNICEF, UNHCR, USAID Bangladesh, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Norwegian Refugee Council, Heidelberg Cement LTD., Summit LNG Ltd, MIDAS Safety, Grameen Phone Ltd., Pacific Jeans Group, IPDC Finance, University of Calgary, Manchester Metropolitan University, IIUC, etc.

EDU strongly emphasizes on research, education and dialogues to elevate the policy discussions in Bangladesh. The Department of Public Leadership, Management and Governance (DPLMG) at East Delta University has been contributing to policy research and education with MPPL being the focal point of the policy discourse at EDU. To catalyze policy discussions, the department has launched the "Policy Dialogue Series". The aim of initiating this series is to establish and offer a platform for idea sharing between academicians, researchers, members of the Government, civil society, businesses, media and NGOs. EDU intends to make significant change in Bangladeshi societies through policy activism and research, and this initiative is an integral milestone towards our vision.

I had a knack of research since my undergrad and was looking for opportunities while working full time. That's when I learned about this program. MPPL is probably the first program in Bangladesh which is offered under 3 different modes. You get to choose your desired mode based on your professional and academic goals in future. The modes are designed to help students explore their research interests, and get hands on training with a research project. I am glad I chose this program!

The future of any nation is a function of its leadership and policy adoption. Development and continuous improvement of policy with successful leadership go hand in hand.

Public policy is a prime catalyst of countrywide sustainable growth. To simply put it, it's a future route map. I believe proactive leadership is the key to adopting a society-friendly public policy. The MPPL program just opened an era in Bangladesh, to develop the leadership skills promoting participative and democratic endeavors both in family, work places, society and State itself.

Being a government employee in an administrative role, I was always searching for a program that is related to my profession. MPPL covers both public policy and leadership, which is unique in Bangladesh. The strength of MPPL, I believe is the pool of skilled Faculty members from home and abroad. We are enjoying an international level of education here in Chattogram! I am also thankful to East Delta University for awarding me the Chairman's Leadership Award, which covers my entire tuition fees! The scholarship has been a great motivation for my academic and professional journey.
