OBJECTIVE AND PHILOSOPHY
A substantial increase in the number of job opportunities for students with a tertiary-level degree in English, as well as an ever-growing number of educational institutes, outsourcing sectors, marketing jobs, research organisations, publication spheres, and, of course, banking areas, has been observed in recent decades. A graduate capable of communicating effectively in English, whether in written or spoken form, is regarded as having superior opportunities in all aspects of life, including professional, social, and economic spheres.
East Delta University (EDU) has initiated the MA in English programme, a two-year programme that consists of a preliminary year and a final year, keeping the needs of a 21st-century learner and career prospects. The programme is designed to instill in students a strong sense of confidence that is derived from critical thinking, analytical reflection, judicious appreciation of discourse, and, most importantly, in-depth research. EDU firmly sustains that this programme will provide learners with competitive job opportunities provided that the offered courses concentrate on contemporary canonical texts, both written in and translated into English. These texts will allow students to re-examine and analyse literary manuscripts, locations, agencies, productions, and the history of the texts; reception in a comparative and contextual manner. The syllabus endeavours to provide students with an overview of the breadth and diversity of English literature in all of its genres, following a consecutive progression from literatures around the world, research understanding, professional communications, English teaching methodologies, and cultural studies. In addition to the concentration on literature, the pedagogical framework relies on an outcome-based structure, learner-centered instructions, research-informed training, and introspective teaching techniques providing a career orientation to the syllabus.

LEARNING OUTCOME
Fundamental Skill: Students will acquire a higher degree of literary and linguistic awareness than they did as undergraduates, and their linguistic repertoire will be enhanced through the implementation of applied experience in structural and functional analyses of canonical texts and theories.

Duration of the program:
a. 1 year (2 semesters): For students with a BA (Hons.) in English degree
b. 2 years (4 semesters): For students without a BA (Hons.) in English degree

a. 40 credits: For students with a BA (Hons.) in English degree
b. 80 credits: For students without a BA (Hons.) in English degree

Cost estimation for 1 (one) semester
a. To pay tribute to Binod Bihari Chowdhury, a prominent figure in the resistance against British rule in Chattogram, all incoming students of MA in English would be granted a 70% bursary towards their tuition fees.
Additional exemptions will be provided to students based on their bachelor's Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Please refer to the following section for a detailed description of fee structure.
